Dementia: Managing not to Forget

On behalf of the NSW organising committee of the 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting for the Australian and New Zealand Society of Geriatric Medicine, (ANZSGM) I am delighted to invite you to participate in our upcoming meeting. This premier conference for Geriatric Medicine in Australasia will be hosted at the Hilton Hotel, Sydney from 2-4 May 2012.

Our theme, “Dementia: Managing Not to Forget”, will bring together leading Researchers, Geriatricians, Advanced Trainee Registrars in Geriatric Medicine and Psychogeriatricians, with General Practitioners, Specialist Dementia Nurses and Allied Health staff also invited to attend.

Our keynote international speaker, Professor Peter Passmore, Professor of Ageing and Geriatric Medicine at Queen’s University, Belfast, is a leading researcher in Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia. He will update us on several ‘hot’ topics in dementia management including the interface between vascular risk factors, mild cognitive impairment and Dementia.

The Australasian Visiting Professor is Professor Chris Rowe, Lead Scientist Australian Imaging, Biomarker & Lifestyle Study (AIBL), Director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine and Centre for PET and Consultant Neurologist to the Memory Disorders Clinic at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne. He will update us on new research into dementia investigations including imaging and biomarkers.

The theme encompasses the journey of a dementia patient from prevention, early symptoms and diagnosis, current and emerging treatments, to managing advanced disease. Our meeting will bring together an experienced selection of invited Australian speakers to fulfil this ambitious program.

With the prevalence of Dementia rising each year, our conference aims to foster impeccable dementia care and management for the future.
